      Death:
2014 June 11 Della died in her sleep around 2:30pm on the in her own bed at home at 13012 CR 503, Tory Hill, Haliburton County, Ontario, Canada. Her husband Don Outram found her body around 7:15pm that evening after coming home from work.

The coroner called me (Don) on the evening of the 15th of June that Della had dead in her sleep from an acute heart attack cause by 3 of the pills she had been taking. As he had suspected when first viewing her around midnight on the 11th.

Della was buried in a very nice wooden casket that Don, Racheal & Shane picked out for her. We held a grave side funeral (close casket) for Della at 1:00pm on 16 June at the Essonville Cemetery, Essonville, (about 4 miles north our home in Tory Hill). It started to rain during the night & right up till 12:30pm, by 1:15 the sun was out & it got very humid.
There was a large attendance (64) people coming from St. Catherines all the way to Brockville to attend it. Fore a lot of Della's family it was the first time visiting this part of Ontario. Her first son, Aaron did not attend it. He doesn't attend funerals. The President of the Bancroft Branch of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Keith Plumb conducted the service. Della's husband Don spoke during the service. Her son in law Frank Stevens dedicated her grave & the cemetery. A marker will be placed on her grave at a later date.

      Statue:
Della was very nicely built (heavy boned girl like her mother's side of the family), not thin but just nicely rounded out in all the right places. She knew how to show off her body by her modestly in dress, (she loved colourful floral out fits), movement & how she walk. It made people take a second look at her.
      She was average build... 5 ft 5 inches, Weight: 180 pounds, after having Racheal & Shane she gained weight getting up to 220 pounds. For the past 2 years she had been working at getting her weight under 200 pounds, at her death she weighted 196 pounds;
      Eyes: a very pretty green, with very dark brown eye brows; Hair: Nice colour of brown, Della looked lovely in long or short hair; Feet: size 9, both feet had web toes. Della only wore shoes when she had too. Even in the winter she would go outside to say good bye to a visitor she'd stand in the snow for minutes on end & it never seemed to bother her. By all accounts all during her childhood & school years she never wore shoes once the snow was gone. She had perfect feet with high arches. Della never complained about any part of her feet hurting her as long as I've known her; Freckles: Della had lots on her arms, back & legs. For the most part you only seen them when she was out in the sun light. Breast: Double “D”, they started to grow when she was 9 yrs old;

      Sports:
Della excelled at many sports in school. Living in Point Anne, a Canada Cement Company town where Bobby Hull (famous NHL Hockey Player) was being raised as well. He being a little older taught Della & a lot of other kids how to skate & play hockey on the companies ice pad. Living on the Bay of Quinte, Della learn to swim at a very early age & was a long distance swimmer. Della also loved boating, canoeing & camping. While growing up her parents took the family camping for 2 weeks every year on Crow Lake, near hwy #7 & Marmara.

      Pets:
Della's family always had birds, fish, dogs & cats etc. Della loved all animals as does myself. When we first got married I owned a dog team, & over the years we've owned many dogs, cats, horses, goats & 2 llamas from 1978 till 2009 when Don came down with Farmer's Lung and could no longer look after them.
Della loved to ride & drive her horses as fast as they could go. She either rode or drove a wagon or cutter/sleigh the 2 miles each way into the town of Wilberforce every day to get the mail & groceries (1978-1988).
In August 2005 Della rode her standard bred horse Kelly the 6.5 miles Wilberforce to be in the Wilberforce Good Times Parade, part way home she let Shane ride Kelly & she got in our 1900 McLaughlin Buggy with me that our thorough a bred horse Billy Rose was pulling.
Della had a “Good seat on a horse” bare back or saddled. She rode her 1st pony at the age of 3 at the Belleville Fair. Her last time riding was 2006. By this time it was getting to painful to get up into the saddle, besides trying to ride. She quit coming for buggy rides with me as well.
Della liked to hunt squirrels & chipmunks. She was a very good shot.

      Driving:
Della started to drive her father's car at age 14, as well as her brother's motorcycle out on highway 401. Della loved speed, but never got a speeding ticket her whole life. She didn't get her driver's license till after we where married.
Della loved "Too Speed", though she never got a speeding ticket.
One of her favorite things to do when she lived on Grace Lake, by January though to March most years after the ice was thick enough she'd drive our truck out onto it & speed the 3 mile length of it as fast as it would go. Della also liked driving husband Don's cross country motor bike. She also loved driving snowmobiles, though she never owned one, her sister Christine did.
The last time she drove was on the 24 December 2013, while travelling down to her parents apartment in Belleville for Christmas.
2003 August Della was in her only car accident where she was driving. She was t-boned at the 4 corners in Wilberforce while turning to the left. The volunteer fire department had to use their Jaw-of-life to pry the Driver door off to get her out. She was rushed to Haliburton Hospital by ambulance & was released shortly after with bad bruising to her body.

      Holidays:
Della Loved Christmas, it was her favorite times of the year, and her Christmas tree had to be prefect in every way. First it had to be a spruce, large in diameter and full. No dead or missing limbs. Mid December I've seen her walking in snow up to her waist just to get to that perfect tree out in someones old farm field.
About 1992 Christmas eve Della went down to her shop in the basement & cut out 4 pieces of wood on her jig saw in the shape of deer hooves. These she attached to long wooden doweling pieces then when outside where it's lightly snowing and made all kinds of deer hoof prints standing & sliding in the fresh snow. Next she made 2 lines in the snow behind the tracks. Then she called me to bring down a couple of carrots. (I didn't know what she was up too). These she had me chew up & spit all around the tracks. By now it's around midnight, I've piled the gifts around the tree. Now Della races up the stairs to get Racheal out of her bed & had her follower her down to Shane's bedroom in the basement to get him up. Now both sleepy eyed she leads them outside to show them Santa Clause's tracks (my boot tracks), the reindeer tracks & the carrot bits & where they had slide in & parked the sleigh & then taken off again. They where aye struck. Then up the stairs Della runs with them in toe to showed them the gifts under the tree that Santa had just left.
When they went back to school they told their teacher & class mates about Santa's visit. The teach thought they where lying so contacted Della. Good job she had me take pictures to show the teacher & the other kids. This is how far Della would go when she was well to please & surprise our kids.
Halloween was the same, as well as birthdays etc. She made a big deal out of everything while the kids where young because by the time they where in high school all they seen of Della was her in bed most of the time.
Our daughter Racheal's 2 daughters (b.3 March 2011 & 17 March 2012) only know Gamma Outram as always being in bed.

      Gardening...
Della loved flowers, at both homes she planted many bulbs. After moving to Tory Hill she made flower beds all along the front of our home.
Della had her 20 x 24 foot vegetable garden which she planted & weeded for many years while the kids where growing up. About 2000 she stopped putting in a garden for it was causing to much pain in her back to take care of it. Della had a “Green Thumb”, she could get anything to grow & grow it did. About 1990 she let her tomatoes grow higher than normal. She ended up with 3 rows each about 2 feet wide by 10 feet in length & over 4 feet in height. It was as thick as a hedge. She took pictures of Racheal & Shane standing behind it, all you can see is the tops of their heads, After our house fire in 2007 & the rebuild Della was not able to replant her flower beds, this really upset her every summer afterwards.

      Heavy Equipment:
After moving to the Birch Villa Resort on the south end of Grace Lake where Don had all the “BIG BOYS TOYS”, bull dozer, tractors, loader, road grader, 2 dump trucks (a 2.4 ton & a 5 ton township truck with plow & wing), backhoe-front end loader etc. Della had to learn how to operate each as good or better than Don & his father Jim could. Don also taught her how to repair them. She could pull out a steering clutch out of the dozer & repair it faster than Don could. The Dozer was her baby. She loved pushing this over with it. “Watch out if you saw her coming, you knew something large was going to move.”

      Memory:
She could remember almost everything she did from age 2 up. She never forgot names, songs etc. Pretty much self taught to play the piano & read music. Played at many church services & other events. Loved to play when ever she had the chance up till 2012 when she couldn't sit for anymore than 10 minutes at a time. Last time she played was in 2013 with her granddaughter Lucy. She tried in the spring of 2014, but couldn't sit on the bench anymore, back hurt her too much by then.

      Music:
Della was known for her lovely voice. She sang like a bird as does her second son Shane. She was asked to sing at church meetings & many weddings until she had a pullet taken off her voice cords in the early 1990's by Dr. Fung (Peterborough Hospital) who cut to deep. That ended her singing in public anymore.
Della's mother had her take piano lessons, after a few lessons she quit. Each time Della got a note wrong the lady teacher hit her with a pointer on the hand. Then Della taught her self to play & read music. She use to play for Sunday meetings of the The Bancroft Branch of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, plus at other events. December 1984 Don brought Della her first electronic piano. In 1996 we had a apartment size piano given to us. Della Loved to play & sing at the same time, especially Christmas songs during the summer months. I sure enjoyed listening to her play. By 2008 she got that she could only play about an half hour a day, then it slowly got down to 5 minutes. After playing I would have to help her up & back into her bed. In 2012 Della would sit our year old granddaughter Lucy on her knee & play for her. The last time Della tried to play was in May 2014, she couldn't even sit on the bench before I had to help her back to bed. She cried for hours afterwards. She just couldn't understand why God had taken so much from her over the years.

      Cook:
Della loved to cook, and try new dishes. Most she made up on her own with lots of spices mixed in. Della knew what spice would add flavor to make to taste much nicer. She had a natural talent for doing this as does our son Shane who loves to cook too. Della's turkey stuffing was to die for as well as her cookies & cakes. Let's say everything she made from scratch including her soups & stews. She loved to decorate cakes for all occasions.
Della use to like to do housework, but as time went on she was able to do less & less. April 2014 she got out the central vacuum, when I got home I found it part way out in the living room. Della apologized for not being able to clean the floors anymore. “I'm uses to you & myself. What good am I to anyone?” Della would say.

      Artist:
At a very early age Della started to draw & do fine artwork & scroll writing. She was commissioned to paint pictures of scenery, animals & people over her early years. In the early 1980's she took Folk-Art Painting lessons & soon was teaching her own classes. She even cut out all of the wooden pieces that they painted. Most she draw free hand. After moving to Tory Hill she taught local ladies out of her home, then when her class got to big she broke it up into an afternoon session & an evening session of between 10 to 20 ladies in each well into the late 1990's. Della only charged for the wooden pieces & any paint they used.
Della was very gifted with a paint brush. She had great control over very fine lines. When her husband Don got into building new & restoring horse drawn cutters & sleighs in the late 1990's Della did all the pin stripping & art work on them. The last one she did was in 2012.
2002 Della re upholstered our 1900 McLaughlin buggy seat with vinyl & did a great job on it. She had watched & been taught by Caroline Dahlke, one of our neighbors who owns her own upholstery business “Haliburton Sew Right” who did most of my new or restored cutters over the years in our basement (Outram's Cutter MFG & Restorations).

      Gamer:
Over the years as Della health declined & she was in a lot more pain she got that she couldn't sit up for very long anymore to read, go on her computer to play games & play Video Games on her X-Box. She was very good at them & would play for hours on end. She wouldn't quit till she had moved up to the next level. She love Mario Bothers game the most.

Music CD's Della loved to listened too:
The Beatles, Simon & Garfunkel, Abba, Hits of the 50's, Gordon Lightfoot (used his music during our marriage ceremony), Barry Manilow, Clay Aiken, Josh Groban, Carlyle Fraser, & John McDermont. Back in the mid 90's Aaron took us all to 2 of John McDermont's concerts held on Little Lake, in Peterborough. Plus she listened to lots of church music & hymns on Cd's.

Public School Activities she was involved in:
Della was very active in the Wilberforce Public School programs while Racheal & Shane attended there & she was able. Around 1995-96 the school wanted to design a school T-shirt & sweat shirt with it's name on it. Della along with other parents took on the challenge. Della's design won. It was a funny drawing of a mother cow with a younger one standing beside her. They where both dressed in clothing with the mother cow holding a towel over her folded arms.
The wording read.... “There's no Udder School like WILBERFORCE”.

      Jewelry:
Early 1990's Della start a collection of precious & semi-precious cut gem stones that she brought off a Gem Stone Auction House out of a southern state off a satellite TV station.Seeing as she didn't sleep much late at night she got some pretty good deals on job lots. By 2014 it comprised of over 5000 stones worth around $200,000.00 retail. Della brought books and knew everything that was available on each and ever varied of stone she had. When someone new (Missionary Couples etc) came to visit she'd bring them all out in their different trays & explain each one to them as she showed them her collection. It was lucky that she kept them in a very large fire proof safe that Don had brought back while we where still living & working at the resort so they where not lost in the fire. Della also brought ear ring, neck laces & finger ring settings. These she put stones into & sold at craft shows held each year in the Wilberforce Community Centre. She never made much at it, BUT it got her out of the house a day each year up till she was to ill to do it anymore. Up till the early 2014 she'd spend hours polishing them etc with them on her bed. She was really proud of her collection. She brought them from monies Don gave her & the baby allowance the government sent her each month.
After her mother died in 2012 & she received her inheritance she started to collect old expensive custom jewelry off the TV & internet. These she would spend hours cleaning (most hadn't been touched in maybe 40 years. Very dirty, couldn't tell if they where gold or silver, or even the kind of stones settings in them). After Della got them all cleaned up she displayed them in wooden glass top boxes that she attached them too. Upon her death she had 12 -14, 12 x 12 x 1 inch display boxes full of this jewelry.

Della also was a collector of fine old glass & china ware.

Della was the President of the Wilberforce Figure Skating Club:
Also in the early to mid 90's Della got involved in the Wilberforce Figure Skating Club, which she was president of for 4 years. Racheal & Shane started skiing when they where around 4 & 5. Racheal skated up till around 2000. Shane transferred to the Haliburton Skating Club around that time till 2004. He placed 2nd place twice in Singles & once in Dance for all of Ontario. Guy Gordon was his coach. After leaving home Shane hung up his skates.

I've Never smoked or drank alcohol, tea or coffee or any other strong drink.
My mother didn't either. My Mom & 2 aunts had breast cancer. Dad died 2006 at 86, heart problems. Mom died 2012 at 88, due to bone cancer. Cancer runs in my mother's side of the family. Most have breast removed. My father smoked up till he met my mother, she told him if he didn't stop then she'd have nothing to do with him He stopped right then.

      HOBBIES...
Loves dogs, cats, horses etc. Riding & driving horses, painting (artist), Folk Art painting, gardening, skating, reading & playing the piano & singing. All of these I can't do anymore because of my health. Wanted to be an interior decorator, never happened. She got her wish when she designed our new home inside & out.

      HEALTH...
Many on going problems... Some run on either her Father or Mother side & in some cases both. Like Fibro Myalgia. Fibro Myalgia cause a plethora of problems.
I have Myalgia… the same as my paternal grandfather Sheppard who was hospitalized in England during the First World War from it. It presents the same as Tri Geminal Myalgia except that the pain is not limited to the face. I experience this over my entire body when it flares up and it lasts from a day to as much as a week. As well as Psoriatic Arthritis (face, joints & ankles).
I have NO Known Allergies, except to lassapack tape. Cause a rash.
I suffer from severe Migraine Headaches & Custer Headaches (since age 5) and they are very debilitating. I keep my bedroom blacked out because of this problem.
All my life I've suffered from Psoriasis & Roseola
Open Sores on my Tongue all the time.
      I have Psoriais (skin disorder),
      High Blood Pressure & Cholesterol.
I also have TMJ and it can be the source of a great deal of discomfort.
I suffer from many Digestive Problems as a result of a botched gall bladder surgery to remove Gall Stones at the age of 23 at Belleville General Hospital. This problem became life threatening and I was in Kingston General Hospital. I was hospitalized for 8 wks before they realized that the main bile duct below the stomach was reputably damaged from the time spent with the gall stone in my liver.
Glossopharyngeal Neuralgia, A rare syndrome characterized by recurrent attacks of severe pain in the posterior pharynx, tonsils, back of the tongue, and middle ear. The cause is unknown,
The Neuralgia in my face has now become a problem over the entire body.
I suffer from Salivary Stones, water seems to bring these on. I found if she drink 100% fruit juice, milk, or any pop (soda drinks) I'd be ok.
      I also suffered from bronchitis.

In the last few years my surgeon Dr. Maclraith from Belleville General Hospital discovered a Diverticulum in the Duodenum and he says it has been the reason for the frequent Pancreatitis.

2004 August I passed out and fell down our back hill and suffered a spiral fracture of the foot and compound fracture to the lower leg.

I've been mostly bed ridden since 2000
All of these problems has cause me to have Deep Depression

I also miscarried 7 pregnancies that we know of.

I have NO Known Allergies, except to lassapack tape. Cause a rash.

2013 Della's pain doctor, Dr. Leung whose office is in downtown Toronto told us both that for every 10 minutes Della was out of bed, she had to be in bed for at least an hour or more to help subdued her pain in her back. And this was along with the massive amount of pain medication Della was on.

      Dental:
Della was just missing that one wisdom tooth when she died. She brushed & flossed twice a day or more.

      Eyes:
At the time of her death this is what she used if she found she couldn't read the small print she'd wear Dollar Store #2-2.5 no name glasses..

      Temper:
Della had one, but it took a lot to get her really mad where her temper would show. For the most part she could control it better than most people I know including myself. But when she got mad, she use to like to bite. By all accounts she did this as a child as well. If she caught you, then you knew you'd get bitten. She did it to me a few times.

      SCHOOLING....
Grades 1-2 Point Anne Public School, Point Anne, Ontario
Grades 4-5 SS #3 Hollow Well Public School, Picton, Prince Edward County
Grades 6-7 Point Anne Public School

Grades 9-12 Moira Secondary School, Belleville
Her father worked for Canada Cement in Point Anne, then moved to Picton to work in their new plant, then back to their old plant. He owned his own home in Point Anne.
She never quit educating herself in everything she took an interest in. She could spell almost any word & she loved to read. She kept herself well informed of what was happening in the world (up till she got really sick & didn't care anymore).
She love to write poems as did her mother, and now her daughter Racheal does as well.
We lost all of her writings of poems & her dairy in out home fire in 2007 & she didn't write anymore after that time.
Della was NO Good a MATH, sewing (she did try to keep my pants mended), or knitting. 1985 She traded her electric sewing machine for a saddle & bridle. And she thought that she'd got the better deal.

      WORK...
I got a job right out of high school got a job with the Federal Government in the Canada Unemployment Office in Belleville. I was only there a short time, couldn't get a ride from Point Anne into Belleville
Thompson's Funeral Home, Belleville, attending to visitors, keeping the place looking good inside etc. after marring Rex, worked there till we moved to Vancouver 1973-1975.
1978-88 Birch Villa Trailer Park & Cottages, Wilberforce, Ont. Husbands parents owned it. Worked in the office depending on my health.

      HOMES WE'VE OWNED...
1978 Sept. bought a 1972 62 x 12 ft. mobile home ($5,500), putting it in the middle of the resort overlooking the campers & Grace Lake. 1988 sold it for $5500.00.

1988 Feb. brought home 8 miles away from the resort on hwy 503 in the hamlet of Tory Hill on McCue Lake Lot 17 Con 9 Monmouth Township, Haliburton County, Ontario, Canada $69,900 3 bedroom 2 level home 24 by 36 foot on 1.1 acres of land. Address P.O.B. 64 Tory Hill, Ontario, Canada K0L 2Y0 phone(705) 448-2190 2006 Haliburton got 911, our address & mail changed to 13012 CR 503, Tory Hill, K0L 2Y0.

1989 Della help Don built a 20 x 24 foot carport west side of home, with a large living/family room over it, plus a 5 sided 4 x 8 foot alcove off the front of the dinning room. (We turned the front top level bedroom into a dinning/music room, where Della's piano was located.) A lot of our furniture had come from the resort or inherited from other family members over the years. We even had things from our Great Grandparents on both sides.

2007 31 March @12:15pm it burnt to the ground (a mouse in the wiring). We lost everything, Della was home by herself at the time. Our insurance paid out over $270,000.00 to build our new home on the same site that Della designed. We lived in a 32 ft travel trailer over our septic bed from May till 7th December. Very cold that winter, by the time we moved inside we had nearly 3 feet of snow.

2004 August I passed out and fell down our back hill and suffered a spiral fracture of the foot and compound fracture to the lower leg.

Note! Planning on being buried in the Essonville Cemetery, Highlands East (Monmouth) Township, Haliburton County, Ontario, Canada which I fell in love with when my husband Don took me there to see it in 1980. Don brought 2 plots that year at $100.00 a piece.

Updated after Della's death by her husband, Don Outram Sept 2014
