    POWER, Mary Elizabeth "Betty" (nee Stokes) - After a courageous battle with cancer on Thursday December 13, 2012, surrounded by her family at the Georgetown Hospital, exactly 1 year and 1 month from the date of her mother's passing. Betty, in her 68th year, beloved wife of Joe Power. Loving mother of Janet (Mark) Drurey, David, Peter (Melanie) and Christine (Adam) Da-Ponte. Proud nana of Taylor, Brandon, Jordy, Jay, Lucas, Corson, Caleb, Daniel, Samantha and Ashley. Loved sister of Allan (Bette-Mae), Bonnie Beam and Denise Boyd. Predeceased by her parents Thomas and Lucille Stokes. Fondly remembered by many nieces and nephews. Friends will be received at the J.S. JONES & SON FUNERAL HOME, 11582 Trafalgar Road, north of Maple Ave., Georgetown, (905) 877-3631 on Monday from 3-5 & 7-9 pm. Funeral service will be held in the chapel on Tuesday, December 18 at 11:00 am. Interment Greenwood Cemetery, Georgetown.     LAVOIE-STOKES, Lucille (Lucy) - With great sadness we announce the sudden passing of our mother and friend Antoinette Lucille (Lucy) Lavoie - Stokes on Sunday November 13th, in her 94th year. Predeceased in March 1990 by her loving husband, Thomas Stokes. Will be greatly missed by her four children; Allen (Bette-Mae) Stokes of Tottenham, Bonnie Beam of North Bay, Betty (Joe) Power of Georgetown and Denise Boyd of Aldershot. She is pre-deceased by four brothers and one sister and remembered by Lucien (Francoise) and Claire. She has outlived all of Tom's family, 4 brothers and 2 sisters plus in-laws. Her passing has left a void with her 13 grandchildren, Darren (Susan) Stokes, Debbie Stokes (Robert McPhail), Blake Beam (Michelina), Michael Beam (Laura), Martin Beam (Michelle), Janet (Mark) Druery, David (Debbi-Lori) Power, Peter (Melanie) Power, Christine Power (Adam DaPonte), Ryan Purdy (Amanda), Adam Purdy, 22 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild and anyone who got to know mom through their many years in Georgetown. We wish to thank all the staff of Allendale in Milton for their gentle care given to mom over the past 7 years there. Friends will be received at the J.S.     According to the 1949 Ottawa city Diretory, Antoine worked as a truck driver for Mahoney and Rich along with his son Victor.

    The 1901 census T6488 Ottawa Ward Division D6 page 10 line 47 says that he was born on the 22 jul 1891... not the 21. But the final word is from his baptism which says that he was born on the 18th and baptised on the 26th of July. At 9 years of age he was already fully bilingual (read,write,speak French & English) and attended school 10 months of the year.

    He worked most of his life at Mahoney & Rich and Hurdman Bros. Mahoney & Rich had the contract to deliver all CNR freight coming into Besserer street freight sheds. Later, Mahoney & Rich sold all of their trucks and equipment to Hurdman Bros which were mostly heavy machinery movers. When Mahoney & Rich folded, Antoine went to work for Hurdman Bros.

    Moved to 135 Geneva St. Ottawa, Ontario in 1930, now 24 Joliette St. Vanier.
